In January, I attended the Mid East States Professional Photography Convention in Covington, Kentucky. While there, I met lots of new and old friends, attended several seminars by the top photographers in the country, and entered a print competition. Especially considering it was my first PPA print competition, I was really happy with the results.
The print, "Face/Off" merited (score of 80+), got a Judge's Choice award (only one per judge given, 6 total), a KPPA Court of Honor, as well as the People's Choice Award. The People's Choice Award is given to the print with the most votes from professional photographers from Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. That was an unbelievable honor!
Excuse the crappy camera phone image, but this is the only one with ribbons

I'd like to thank Jessica Vogel (2009 KPPA President) and Dave Huntsman (2009 KPPA Photographer of the Year) for helping me select which images to enter while at lunch in Phoenix, Arizona at the ImagingUSA convention.
I had an awesome time with my friends, Donna and Kelly Schomaker from Kelly Michelle Photography and Kristen from Gracie's Originals.
My print "Sunshine on a Rainy Day"...
also merited and received the Court of Honor award as pictured below.
"Casual Elegance"
and "Hard Day's Work"
won an Award of Achievement.
The man who took home nearly all the awards that night, including Photographer of the year, Michael Timmons.
And now for the fun stuff...
Every year, after the awards banquet, there's an after party. My photographer friends are going to have to forgive me, but these are too good not to post!
Sabrina of Allied Photographic, Kristen of Gracie's Originals, and Kathy of Wurtzler Photography pose with "Oscar".
2008 KPPA President Brad Lamb and Dave Huntsman enjoy a photo taken by Linda Durham.
The official photographer of the convention, Linda Durham, behaving like a photographer...hiding behind the camera.
James Churchill and PPA President Ron Nichols pose with Big Boy.

And finally, my attempt at dancing...the Electric Slide
I hope everyone enjoyed the sneak peak into the MES Convention. There are a lot of people who owe me a HUGE "thank you" for NOT posting your images at the party! :-P
